SALARY: $69,852 to $87,228 Annually

Essential Functions:
The Communications & Engagement Representative will coordinate District responses, partnerships and service to neighborhood, small business, multi-ethnic, faith based and non-profit community based organizations the District serves; markets new and existing District services to these groups based on analysis of customer needs; provide individualized, responsive, high quality service to promote the recruitment and retention of new and existing District customers; open new channels for customer feedback; leverage SMUD resources to assist customers in reaching mutual goals; and secure District revenues. Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Acts as a main point of contact for neighborhood associations, non-profit organizations, small business districts, faith based groups, multi-ethnic groups and community based organizations;
- Establishes and maintains direct relationships with decision-making staff and managers within the customer’s organization and assumes responsibility for determining and responding to the customer’s needs;
- Acts as program manager/team lead to coordinate District activities and services to resolve issues of rates, energy services, community or neighborhood concerns, customer services and billing, community partnerships, energy operations, distribution services and premium power/power quality;
- Provides strategic input and assists in the development of new policies and programs in response to the needs of key business, ethnic and community based organization customers;
- Negotiates terms and conditions associated with customer partnerships, technical and energy services from the District that ensures protection for the District’s long term positions;
- Monitors, interprets and communicates to District management community and industry patterns and trends that impact pricing and sales;
- Investigates and pursues opportunities for beneficial electrification that will increase District revenues and contribute to meeting the District’s fixed costs and lowering electricity rates; and seeks to leverage SMUD resources to assist customers and the District to achieve mutual goals.
Qualifications:
Typically, five (5) or more years of progressively responsible relevant work experience interfacing with business, neighborhood, ethnic and community based organizations; at least two (2) years experience in serving on the board of a community based organization, chamber board, advisory committee, neighborhood association, commission or similar community focused organization; and experience working with community, business and neighborhood leaders, and with one or more customer service areas adequate to assist in the development of new and existing customer partnerships, community organizing, programs and services.
Two (2) years experience in a leadership role (President, Chair, etc) in a community based organization, chamber board, advisory committee, neighborhood association or commission, interfacing with neighborhood, small business, multi-ethnic, faith based and non-profit community based organizations in the Sacramento community are highly desirable. Bilingual skills and knowledge of electric utility regulation and changes in federal, state and local utility-related legislation are also desirable.
